Customer Appreciation Week, Sept. 8-14

We love our customers! Prizes, surprises and treats all week for library users.

Exhibits

 

Exhibit: 1958: The Birth of Levittown, NJ

Documents and memorabilia on the first year of Levittown, NJ/Willingboro history from the library's Local History Collection and on loan from private collectors.

Exhibit Displayed: Sept. 6-28.

Meet the 1958 Pioneers: Sat., Sept. 6, 2 p.m.  Meet and talk to the first Levittown, NJ residents, who moved into town in 1958. Light refreshments served.

 

Children's Programs

 

Program: Birthday Surprise Drawing

Day, Dates, & Time: All of September

Grades: Pre-school - 6

Registration: Not required

Celebrate Willingboro Public Library's 5th birthday by entering your name and the month you were born into a prize drawing! Five winners will be chosen randomly for a birthday present in honor of W.P, L.'s birthday!

 

Program: Library Card Sign Up

Day, Dates, & Time: All of September

Grades: Pre-school - 6

Registration: Not required

Hurry! Sign up for your "most important school supply" a library card! When you do, visit the Children's Department reference desk and pick up a bottle of glue, scissors, pencils or notebook to go along with it.

 

Program: Tiny Tots Story Time Circle

Day, Dates & Time: Wed., Sept. 3, 10, 17& 24, 10:30 a.m.

Ages: 18 mos. - 4 yrs.

Registration: Ongoing

Gather at the library for story time and listen as you are read to with friends.

"Little readers" will also enjoy learning finger plays, munching on snacks and

parent interactive toys in the meeting room after story time.

 

Program: Kids @ Work

Day, Date, & Time: Mon., Sept. 15, 3 - 5 p.m.

Grades: Pre-school - 6

Registration: Not required

Kids, start of the school year right! Use your community library for after school homework and enjoy a snack provided by us! A librarian is will be available for brief tours of the department and to answer any questions about the services we offer!

 

Program: Sunday Book Party, "Up-Up and Away-Blast Off to School"

Day, Date & Time: Sun., Sept. 21, 2 p.m

Ages: 4-10

Registration: Begins Sept. 1

Enjoy stories, fun and games including creating hot-air-balloons.

 

Teen Programs

 

Program: Newbery Book Club

Day, Date & Time: Wed., Sept. 10, 3:30 p.m.

Grades: 6-8

Registration: Ongoing

Discuss the latest and coolest books for young teens over refreshments.  Participants receive books free every month.  Students in Willingboro public schools receive extra credit for attending!

 

Program: Game On!

Day, Dates & Time: Mon., Sept. 29, 6:30 p.m.

Grades: 7-12

Registration: Not required

Take a game break this Monday!  Come to the Young Adult Room and kick back with a game of cards, a board game or jump on the Wii and test your gaming skills.  All teens are welcome to drop in and get your game on!

 

Family Programs

 

Program: Multi-Generational Stitch-In

Day, Date & Time: Wed., Sept. 3, 2- 5 p.m. 

Registration: Not required

September 3 is National Stitch Day!  Charlotte Froman of the Colonial West Jersey Chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild will be in the library to lead stitchers of all ages in creating their own unique works of art.

 

Program: Happy Fifth Birthday, Willingboro Public Library

Day, Date & Time: Sunday, Sept. 14, 1 p.m.

Registration: Not required

Celebrate five years in our new location with birthday cake and treats for everyone.

 

Program: Origami Workshop

Day, Date & Time: Sat., Sep. 20, 3 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served.

Registration: Begins Sep. 6

Join us as we learn the ancient Japanese art of paper folding.  Willingboro resident Cye Newman will lead this hands-on workshop.  All paper supplies will be provided for this creative workshop.

 

Adult Programs

 

Program: Multicultural Genealogy

Day, Date & Time: Wed., Sept. 10, 6:30 p.m.

Registration: Begins Aug. 20

Willingboro resident and local historian Robert House will speak talk about researching your roots, whether they extend to Africa, Europe or anywhere else. Pick up tips and hear the fascinating stories that came out of Mr. House's extensive genealogical research.

 

Program: Senior Citizen Book Club

Day, Dates & Time: Wed., Sept. 17, 1:30 p.m.

Registration: Not required

Join us for rousing discussions about the latest books that everyone is talking about!  Seniors of all ages welcome!

 

Program: Multicultural Genealogy Workshop

Day, Date & Time: Sat., Sept. 20, 2:30 p.m.

Registration: Begins Aug. 20

Robert House will return for a hands-on session exploring your own family tree, as well as those of celebrities like Oprah and Barack Obama. 

 

Program:  Introduction to Journaling

Day, Date & Time: Mon., Sept. 22, 6:30 p.m. 

Registration: Begins Sept. 8

Have you ever thought about starting a memoir or a journal?  If you've ever considered journaling as your outlet for creative expression, then this workshop is for you.  Creative Writing Professor Ophelia Johnson will lead this introductory yet informative workshop. Light refreshments will be served.

 

Program: Poetry Writing Workshop

Day, Date & Time: Wed., Sept. 24, 6:30-8 p.m.

Ages: Adults

Registration: Begins Sept. 3

Program: Banned Books Week Trivia Challenge

Day, Date & Time: Sept. 27-Oct. 4, anytime the library is open

Stop by the adult reference desk and answer a question about a banned book. You will be entered in a drawing to win your own copies of several banned books!

Computer Classes

Program: Basic Computing

Days - Days, Dates & Times: Weds. & Thurs., 10 a.m.- noon or 1 p.m.-3 p.m.;  Sept. 3,  4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 & 25.

Registration:  Begins two weeks before the first class of the month.

Join this class to learn basic concepts in MS Windows, MS Word, and desktop publishing.

Program: Keyboarding

Day, Date & Time: Thurs., Sept. 4, 11, 18 & 25, 6 p.m.

Registration: Begins two weeks before the first class.

Four fun classes can improve your typing and save you hours at the keyboard later!

 

Program: Buying and Selling on the Internet

Day, Dates & Time: Fri., Sept. 12 & 19, 10 a.m.

Registration: Begins two weeks before the first class.

We will shop on ebay and talk about how to pay for our purchases. Then we will see how to sell stuff we already have. We will go over how to register on ebay, paypal and other websites, and how to know whether to trust a website with credit card and other financial information.

 

Program: Microsoft Publisher

Day, Date & Time: Mon., Sept. 15, 6 p.m.

Registration: Begins two weeks before the first class.

On one action-packed evening, learn how to create attractive and professional looking publications, including business cards, party invitations, flyers, brochures and more.
