Lenape Indian Lore

 

Lennmaryellenflynncompress.jpgi Lenape lore instructor MaryEllen Flynn will share Indian artifacts and stories of the first settlers of Willingboro at Willingboro Public Library on Wed.,Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. This free program is open to the public. Registration begins Jan. 2.

MaryEllen Flynn, a resident of Willingboro and a retired science teacher, has been studying and teaching about the Lenape Indians for over 50 years. She gave her first presentation on the Lenape in 1964 for the New Jersey Tercentary celebrations. Since then, she has given well over 100 lectures on the subject. Using authentic Lenape artifacts or faithful reproductions, she has given presentations at Rowan University and schools all across New Jersey. She has taught everyone from elementary school children to senior citizens. Her Lenape name is To-Ki-Pah-Ki-Nao or "Soft Leaves Woman". She has studied with and served as an advisor for the Delaware Tribe of Oklahoma
