Exhibits

 

Exhibit: African Art and Culture

African art, crafts, and cultural objects from the collections of library staff and African families in the community.

Exhibit Displayed: Feb. 4-27.

Meet the African Advisory Board: Sat., Feb. 7, 2 p.m. Meet and talk to leaders of the African-born community in Willingboro, who advise the library on the needs of recent immigrants from Africa.

Children's Programs

Black History Month Reading Contest

Day, Date, & Time: February, Anytime

Grades: K - 6

Registration: Not required

Read any book by an African American author or about Black history or culture and enter your name in a prize drawing any time in the month of February in the Children's Room.

 

Program: Baby, It's All About You!

Day, Date & Time: Thurs., Feb. 5, 6:30 p.m.

Ages: Birth - 18 mos.

Registration: Begins Jan. 5

Bring your baby to the library for baby lap games, finger plays and floor toys. Every baby in attendance will receive their 1st library gift, a board book. Please bring a blanket to lay your baby on as we play and bond!

 

Program: Sunday Book Party, Valentine Fun

Day, Date & Time: Sun., Feb. 8, 2 p.m.

Ages: 4-10

Registration: Begins Feb. 1

Enjoy making valentines and playing Bingo for valentine prizes. Refreshments served.

 

Program: You Warm Our Hearts Party

Day, Date & Time: Wed., Feb. 11, 11 a.m.

Ages: 18 mos. - 4 yrs.

Registration: Begins Jan. 19

Toddlers, you warm our hearts! Join us at the library with your caregiver for a morning of books, hugs & treats while creating a valentine craft. If you wish you can bring a special stuffed animal or doll to our party! Dress to play.

 

Program: Give your Heart to Books

Day, Date & Time: Sat., Feb. 28, 2 p.m.

Grades: 1 - 4

Registration: Begins Jan. 5

Give your heart to books and join us at the library for a theme related book talk and activities. You will be entered into a drawing for a gift card to Barnes & Noble to begin your love for books! Sweet treats and prizes will be loved by all.

Family Programs

Program: African American Read-In Chain

Day, Date & Time: Sun., Feb. 1, 2 p.m.

Registration: Not required

Willingboro Public Library and Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. will celebrate African American literary creativity with a read aloud from favorite African American authors. Refreshments served.

 

Program: Extreme Makeover @ the Library

Day, Date & Time: Mon., Feb. 23, 6:30 p.m. 

Registration: Begins Jan. 29

Watch as someone from the program audience gets transformed with an extreme makeover!  Learn hair, make-up and beauty tips at this interactive and fun workshop.

 

Adult Programs

Program: Black History Month Trivia Challenge

Day, Date & Time: Feb.1-28, anytime the library is open

Stop by the adult reference desk and test your knowledge of Black History. You will be entered in a drawing to win a prize.

 

Program: "Who You Gonna Call?" South Jersey Ghost Research Visits the Library!

Day, Date and Time: Wed., Feb.11, 7 p.m.

Registration: Starts Jan. 26

Just before Friday the 13th, come to the library and see the real-life "Ghostbusters." Hear and watch evidence of ghostly apparitions! South Jersey Ghost Research has been investigating the paranormal in this area for over 50 years. Learn about this fascinating group and what they do to help those who fear a supernatural presence in their home. They also will answer questions from the audience. All ages are welcome, but don't come alone! 

Program: Vision of Hope Job Fair

Day, Date & Time: Tue., Feb. 17, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Registration: Begins Feb. 3

Vision of Hope is an organization based in Burlington County designed to help men and women stabilize themselves to achieve a successful reintegration back into society through community and social services.  In cooperation with the library, Vision of Hope is sponsoring an open job fair for all adults seeking employment. Light refreshments will be served.

 

Program: Senior Citizen Book Club

Day, Date & Time: Mon., Feb. 18, 1:30 p.m. @ at the JFK Senior Center

Registration: Not required

Join us for rousing discussions about the latest books that everyone is talking about!  Seniors of all ages welcome!

 

Teen Programs

 

Program: Self-Defense Workshop for Tweens and Teens

Day, Date & Time: Mon., Feb. 2, 4 p.m.

Grades: 5-12

Registration: Begins Jan. 19

Attention all tweens and teens!!!  Learn cool and effective defense moves from a Karate expert.  You never know when you will need to defend yourself from a bully or a stranger; this fun and informative workshop will teach you how to protect yourself in potentially dangerous situations.

 

Program: Cover to Cover Book Club for High School Students

Day, Date & Time: Mon., Feb. 9, 3 p.m.  Light refreshments will be served.

Grades: 9-12

Registration: Not required

Read any good books lately?  Get together with friends and talk about the current great reads!  A new and exciting book is discussed each month.  Copies of the book are provided to club members.  This program will be held in Willingboro High School's MVP Room.  All area high school students are welcome to attend.

 

Program: Game On!

Day, Date & Time: Mon., Feb. 9, 6:30 p.m.

Grades: 7-12

Registration: Not required

Take a game break this Monday!  Come to the Young Adult Room and kick back with a game of cards, a board game or jump on the Wii and test your gaming skills.  All teens are welcome to drop in and get your game on!

 

Program: Newbery Book Club

Day, Date & Time: Wed., Feb. 11, 3:30 p.m.

Grades: 6-8

Registration: Ongoing

Discuss the latest and coolest books for young teens over refreshments.  Participants receive books free every month.  Students in Willingboro public schools receive extra credit for attending!

 

Program: Valentine's Day Creative Candy Workshop

Day, Date & Time: Feb. 13, 2:30 p.m.

Grades: 7-12

Registration: Begins Jan. 30

Valentine's Day is here, and we've got just the candy crafts to make your holiday sweet!  Whether you make these chocolate roses or candy sundaes for yourself or for your valentine, they are sure to be a hit!

 

Computer Classes

Program: Internet & E-mail Basics

Day, Date & Time: Fri., Feb. 13 & 20, 10 a.m.

Registration: Begins two weeks before the first class.

Would you like to find out what's on the World Wide Web, or use e-mail to catch up with friends and family? Get started on the Internet; find interesting websites; set up your free email account; and find out how to send and receive messages, among other things.   

 

Program: PC Basics

Days - Day, Date & Time: Thurs., Feb. 19, 10 a.m.- noon.  

Registration:  Begins Jan. 7.

This two-hour session introduces students to PCs and the Windows XP operating system. Learn the basics of using a computer and saving and finding your files.
