Exhibit: The Early Years of Levittown, 1959 and 1960

Documents and memorabilia on the early years of Levittown, NJ, now Willingboro, from the library's Local History Collection and on loan from private collectors.

Exhibit Displayed: Dec. 4-29.

Meet the 1959 and 1960 Residents: Sat., Dec. 6, 2 p.m.  Meet and talk to residents who moved to Levittown almost fifty years ago. Light refreshments served.

Children's Programs

Program: Community Tree Building

Day, Date & Time: Begins Dec. 8

Grades: Pre- k - 6

Registration: Not Required

Celebrate the holidays by joining your library friends in decorating the Children's Room holiday tree! Throughout the month of December, choose an ornament from our basket of various holidays and celebrate with us by placing your ornament on our community tree.

 

Sunday Book Party

Day, Date & Time: Sun., Dec. 7, 2 p.m.

Ages 4-10

Registration: Begins Dec. 1

"Trim the Tree": have fun making holiday ornaments and listening to holiday stories. Enjoy holiday treats.

 

Program: Sugar Plum Story Time

Day, Date & Time: Mon., Dec. 8 & 15, 7 p.m.

Ages: 3-6

Registration: Begins Nov. 18

Join us at the library for holiday bedtime stories in your PJs with a warm cup of cocoa and lots of holiday cheer.

Program: Flora's Blanket

Day, Date & Time: Thurs., Dec. 11, 7 p.m.

Ages: 18 months- 4 yrs.

Registration: Begins Nov. 17

Toddlers get cozy in your pajama's and visit the library for bedtime stories. You and your caregiver can snuggle with your favorite blanket or bedtime buddy while Ms. Linda reads you the book Flora's Blanket and other stories. A good night snack will also assure your little one a good nights rest.

 

Program: Kids Night Out!

Day, Date & Time: Thurs., Dec. 18, 6 -8 p.m.

Ages: 8 - 12

Registration: Begins Nov. 24

Parents, do you have last minute shopping or wrapping to finish? If so, give your kids a night out at the library! We will feed them dinner and entertain them with books, crafts and games throughout the night. 

Adult Programs

 

Program: Researching and Writing Research Papers

Day, Date & Time: Mon., Dec. 1, 6 p.m. or Tues., Dec. 2, 7 p.m. or Thurs., Dec. 4, 6 p.m.

Registration: Begins Nov. 12

Get help writing your research papers for BCC, online or other university programs. Find out how to maximize your time and effort by using databases and advanced research techniques, and how to evaluate and cite sources.

 

Program: Feng Shui and the Law of Attraction

Day, Date & Time: Tues., Dec. 2, 7 p.m.

Registration: Begins Nov. 12

Kathleen McCabe will return to the library to inspire us to bring harmony and prosperity into our lives during the holidays and in the new year.  By applying the time-honored laws of attraction and the principles of Feng Shui, we will learn how to get what we really want out of life.

 

Program: "A House Is Not Enough:" The Ideas Behind Willingboro and Levitt & Sons.

Day, Date & Time: Sat., Dec. 6, 3:30 p.m.

Registration: Not required

Learn about the building philosophy behind Levittown in Willingboro and William Levitt. Come hear Richard Rhodes and Andrew Roscoe, two former employees of Levitt & Sons, share their personal experience and anecdotes in building Willingboro and working for the "General Motors of the Housing Industry."  Bring your questions about your Willingboro house, too! Refreshments will be provided.

Program: Senior Citizen Book Club

Day, Date & Time: Wed., Dec. 17, 1:30 p.m. at the Kennedy Center

Registration: Not required

Join us for rousing discussions about the latest books that everyone is talking about!  Seniors of all ages welcome!

Teen Programs

 

Program: Make It and Take It Gifts

Day, Date & Time: Sat., Dec. 6, 2:30 p.m.

Grades: 7-12

Registration: Begins Nov. 21

Hey Teens!  The holidays are right around the corner; don't spend your hard-earned cash on gifts at the mall.  Come to this workshop to make some of your holiday gifts, including homemade jewelry, holiday ornaments, and personalized mugs filled with hot chocolate.

 

Program: High School Book Club

Day, Date & Time: Mon., Dec. 8, 3 p.m. 

Grades: 9-12

Registration: Not required

Read any good books lately?  Get together with friends and talk about the current great reads!  A new and exciting book is discussed each month.  Copies of the book are provided to club members.  Light refreshments will be served.

This program will be held in Willingboro High School's MVP Room.  All area high school students are welcome to attend.

 

Program: Newbery Book Club

Day, Date & Time: Wed., Dec. 10, 3:30 p.m.

Grades: 6-8

Registration: Ongoing

Discuss the latest and coolest books for young teens over refreshments.  Participants receive books free every month.  Students in Willingboro public schools receive extra credit for attending!

 

Program: Game On!

Day, Date & Time: Mon., Dec. 15, 6:30 p.m.

Grades: 7-12

Registration: Not required

Take a game break this Monday!  Come to the Young Adult Room and kick back with a game of cards, a board game or jump on the Wii and test your gaming skills.  All teens are welcome to drop in and get your game on!

 

Computer Classes

Program: Basic Computing Refresher

Day, Date & Time: Wed., Dec. 3, 10 a.m.

Registration: Not required.

As a special Christmas gift to her students and the Willingboro Public Library, Ms. Lena Savage will welcome back Basic Computing students and others who could use a little refresher, or some help using a PC.
