Transforming Our Community!

Community building will be the theme of the Willingboro Public Library's 2008-10 Strategic Plan, announced the Library Board of Trustees. "This plan will both strengthen existing library services and adopt new library services which bring like-minded people together to enable them to communicate, share information, and reach common goals," said the planning committee. "The library will suppport these communities to enable them to be strong, participative, and interactive."

 

2008 Goals

 

Goal 1

Increase community building activities in library programs by 50% over 2007.

• Compile a menu of acceptable community building activities for staff programmers.
• Include compliance with community building requirement in program promotion plan.
• Measure number of community building activities in comparison to 30 activities in the baseline year of 2007.
• Evaluate quality of community building activities by comparing to strategic definition. Did they bring like-minded people together to enable them to communicate, share information, and reach common goals? Does library support of these communities enable them to be strong, participative, and interactive?

 

Goal 2

Increase local history programming, new acquisitions to the local history collections, and participation in local history organizations by 50% over 2007.

• Hold local history exhibits and programs.
• Collect organizational histories and historic photos, documents, and memorabilia that become available during the celebration for permanent inclusion in local history collection.
• Attend meetings of the 50^th Anniversary Levittown/Willingboro planning committee, the history subcommittee, and the township Heritage Commission.
• Measure number of local history programming activities in comparison to 2 programs, 20 new acquisitions, and 10 meetings in the baseline year of 2007.
• Evaluate quality of the programming and participation as community building activities by comparing to strategic definition. Did they bring like-minded people together to enable them to communicate, share information, and reach common goals? Does library support of these communities enable them to be strong, participative, and interactive?

 

Goal 3

Increase outreach activities to immigrant communities by 50% over 2007.

• Form a committee to develop plan for outreach to African immigrants, as suggested by staff research.
• Include a literacy component.
• Perform outreach activities developed by committee.
• Evaluate plan components and revise if necessary.
• Replicate plan with a different ethnic group in years 2 & 3.
• Measure outreach activities in comparison to 2 in baseline year of 2007.
• Evaluate quality of the programming and participation as community building activities by comparing to strategic definition. Increase community building activities to clubs and organizations by 50% over 2008.

Increase community building activities to churches and religious groups by 50% over 2008.

Increase community building activities to social networks and online communities by 50% over 2008.

Goal 1

• Increase community building components to existing library services by 10 over 2009.
• Measure community building activities in comparison to baseline year of 2009.
• Evaluate quality of the activities by comparing to strategic definition. Did they bring like-minded people together to enable them to communicate, share information, and reach common goals? Does library support of these communities enable them to be strong, participative, and interactive?

 

Goal 2

• Increase new library services with community building components by 50% over 2009.
• Measure community building activities in comparison to baseline year of 2009.
• Evaluate quality of the activities by comparing to strategic definition. Did they bring like-minded people together to enable them to communicate, share information, and reach common goals? Does library support of these communities enable them to be strong, participative, and interactive?
